The Balanced Scorecard Takes the Pain Out of Mergers |
| |
In this article, author, management consultant and Balanced Scorecard expert Paul Niven focuses on the enormous challenges that organizations face when mergers happen, contending with aspects like divergent cultures, conflicting sales channels and mismatched strategies.
Using the case of a Canadian information and communications technology company formed as the merger of four telecommunications companies, each with more than a hundred years of operating experience, the author shows how the CEO and his executive team used the opportunity to introduce the Balanced Scorecard as representing a new way there.

BKK - Achieving Group-Wide
Strategic Alignment |
| |
|
| |
 |
In the 1990s, BKK, a Norwegian producer of
electrical power, became a vertically

|
integrated provider and also diversified to capitalize on emerging market opportunities such as broadband services. As a result, BKK faced a challenge in aligning managerial principles and approaches across the group.
In response, BKK introduced the Balanced Scorecard methodology for Enterprise Performance Management in year 2003.

When people ask me about customer references I always tell them that they should not ask the person that has committed the money for the project. This person is by default obliged to say that the project was a success.
